I recently had a chance to touch base with Susie Smith, Associate/Marketing Director at KPFF, and ask her a few questions about her firm, which is one of our Redwood Sponsors.

Tell us about your firm and services.
KPFF Civil and Structural Engineers are driven by a commitment to our core values of Excellence, Trust, Relationships, Stability, and Passion. We aim to do something MORE than engineering with every teaming opportunity, evolving from pure consultant to trusted advisor for multiple aspects of the project. Since our founding in 1960, our work has been based upon a thorough understanding of our clients’ needs, application of the best available design and materials technology, understanding construction processes and costs, and a sincere desire to produce the best quality product on time and within budget.

How many years have you been in business?
58, with more than 26 in San Francisco.

Could you tell us about some notable projects?
We provide creative, practical solutions for projects of all kinds, scales, and industries. They include Marin General Hospital Replacement Hospital, Cooley Landing Educational Center (Mass Timber), Chatham University Net-Positive Eden Hall Campus, Sunnydale Hope SF Affordable Housing Development, and Hayward City Hall.

What differentiates your firm in terms of approach, talent, tools, values?
KPFF is a proponent of the concept of lean design and construction, as this philosophy is completely in alignment with our mission to add value to the construction process that goes beyond the structural/civil engineering. We are proactive participants in the entire design and construction process, and work hard to cultivate the types of relationships that lead to collaborative and lean solutions.

How long have you been a sponsor of SMPS?
An annual sponsor the last year, and MTC sponsor 5 years in a row!

What are some of the memorable or key events of SMPS that your firm has been involved with?
We have been an MTC sponsor 5 years in a row. We encourage active volunteers…our Marketing Director is President-Elect!
