Laughter, Raffle Winners, and the New Board as We Welcome Another Year

There have been lots of first in 2020, and the Annual Business Meeting (ABM) was no exception. Held virtually last Thursday, over 70 members and guests gathered around Zoom to celebrate a year that highlighted the creativity and flexibility of SMPS SFBAC as we navigated the most unforeseen of circumstances and dealt with a whole new way of approaching our professional environment.

There was a visit from national, with the Society’s CEO, Michael Geary, stopping by to say a few words and talk about their efforts to continue to provide resources, education, and support to members. Among milestone anniversaries, we toasted Denise Youmans, who celebrated 25 years as a chapter member.

Alexandria Love, who some of you may remember from our last in-person program back in January, gave us a wonderful 10 minutes of hilarity with some wry observations about coping with quarantine.

Next up, outgoing President Susie Smith, took some time to thank our 2020 sponsors, the current board, and all of our Chapter volunteers, with nods to those departing and a heartfelt thanks for all the effort. She introduced our 2020 Student Scholarship winner, UC Berkeley sophomore Muskaan Agarwal, who will receive a $1000 scholarship as well as a SMPS SFBAC student membership. Last, but not least, Susie presented the People Awards which went to Rising Star Danielle Deltorchio, Volunteer of the Year Jillian Grabenstein, and Marketer of the Year Allison Halvorson.

Allison is also our new President and she took over from there, introducing the new board and giving a brief overview of the Chapter’s Vision, Mission, and Guiding Principles. Following an introduction of the new Diversity & Inclusion Advisor, Kim Pipkin, each committee took some time to talk about their goals for the year and how members could volunteer in the upcoming year.

In between, raffle winners were announced for a variety of prizes, including lucky winner, Lillian Martin, who received a registration to Build Business in October.

The presentation was followed by breakout rooms for members and guests to catch up, network, and make plans for the year to come. Rounding out our entertainment was another comedian, Pam Benjamin, who closed the show with another laugh-inducing set of stand-up comedy.

We hope you all enjoyed the presentation and are looking forward to (hopefully) being back together in-person again for the next ABM in 2021.
