    President’s Message – December 2020

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times….” As we look back on 2020, I think that we can all agree that it wasn’t what we expected. There were highs and lows, we faced hardships and victories, and we adapted. We were resilient. I’ve been reading a lot about silver linings and I can definitely say I’ve had a few. I’ve spent a lot more time with my son (whether he liked it or not), I made it through my entire 2020 reading list (and then some), and I found out you really can complete Netflix (only kinda joking here). Whatever this season looks like for you, I hope you think about your silver linings and find a little holiday magic.

I’ll be spending a quiet Christmas with my family and taking some time off to reflect and plan for the new year and the “spring of hope.” I’m not one for New Year’s resolutions, but I do like to set goals. If you’re also starting to think about 2021, here are some ways SMPS SFBAC can help you grow:

    Educational Programs
We are kicking off the new year with two exciting educational programs. On January 21, join us for The Elements of Business Development Strategies Today with Frank Lippert and Kathryn Ness. Moving client interactions and business development activities into a virtual and new environment is stressful, confusing, uncertain, and, let’s face it, not very exciting. It could be a while before we have face-to-face meetings, yet talking to clients and winning work has not stopped. Join us to discover some elements for building BD strategies in a virtual environment. Lee Jourdan, Chevron’s Chief Diversity Officer, will join us on January 28 for the second event in our Power of Diversity Speaker Series. He will be giving an overview of Chevron’s DEI programs and best practices. The second half of the presentation will be open discussion, so have your questions ready!

    CPSM Study Group
The CPSM certification offers a range of benefits, including: enhanced credibility with employers, clients, and peers; improved ability to compete in the job market; and the potential for increased compensation and benefits. In short, CPSMs are recognized as the experts in our field — professionals who have turned their knowledge into results for their companies. Is 2021 the year you take the next step in your career? Join us on January 13 for this information meeting to learn more about obtaining your CPSM certification and the 2021 CPSM Study Group, which will be hosted jointly by the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento Chapters.

    Mentoring Pathways
Tomorrow is the last day to sign up for Mentoring Pathways. The new, all-virtual format will enable all participants to leverage a wide range of expertise, benefit from a variety of experience, and ultimately expand their networks. If you would like to expand your horizons as a mentor or protégé, please join us.

We still have volunteer opportunities available! Take your career to the next level and grow your network in 2021. Please get in touch with any board member for more information.

    Happy Holidays,
