We’re currently seeking nominations for our 2027 Board of Directors! This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a vibrant, member-driven organization and collaborate with a team dedicated to professional growth, creative programming, and fostering a sense of belonging in our industry.
Each year, our Nominations and Elections Committee invites members to nominate themselves or others for open leadership roles. Read on to learn more about the positions available this year and how you can get involved.

For the 2027 term, we’re accepting nominations for the following roles:
President-Elect
As President-Elect, you’re stepping into a leadership pipeline that helps shape the future of the Chapter—and the experience of every member. This role is a unique blend of mentorship, strategy, and service. You’ll work closely with the current President and fellow Board members to guide Chapter priorities and programming, and build a cohesive and inclusive member experience as you prepare for your term of office.
As you prepare for your term of office, you’ll chair the Nominations and Elections Committee, serve as an ex-officio member of all standing committees, co-lead the Chapter’s annual Strategic Planning meeting, and act in place of the President when needed. You’ll automatically assume the role of President in the following year.
Serving as Chapter President is a rewarding opportunity to shape the vision and direction of the Chapter, build relationships across the AEC industry, practice and grow leadership skills in a volunteer setting, and raise your professional profile—along with your firm’s—within the regional and larger SMPS community.
Eligibility: To be eligible for election as President-Elect, an individual must have served on the Board of Directors for one year, or have served as a committee chair for one year, and must be a member in good standing.
treasurer
The Treasurer oversees the development of the annual budget, reviews and advises the Board on the financial integrity of the Chapter, and produces the monthly and annual financial reports with the support of the Chapter’s executive administrator. The Treasurer performs all duties related to the office of Treasurer and such other duties as from time to time may be assigned by the President or the Chapter Board of Directors.
The Treasurer is elected for a two year term in odd numbered years, with a term limit of two consecutive terms (four years total).
Eligibility: To be eligible for election as Treasurer, an individual must be a member in good standing and have at least one year of experience volunteering on a Chapter committee.
Directors-at-Large (up to 4 positions available)
Directors play an essential role in guiding the Chapter’s work and supporting its members. Each Director provides leadership within a key focus area and serves as a Board liaison to at least one Committee. Directors help shape Chapter priorities and ensure that our programs and member experiences stay relevant, inclusive, and impactful.
This role is ideal for professionals who want to deepen their involvement with SMPS and grow as leaders—whether you’re a newer manager ready to take the next step or a more experienced professional looking to make a broader impact. Directors-at-Large bring valuable perspective, help drive Chapter decisions, and are trusted collaborators who contribute where the Chapter needs them most.
Directors are elected for one-year terms and may serve up to two consecutive terms. Key focus areas include:
- Communications – leads the Chapter’s communications strategy and helps ensure members stay informed, engaged, and connected
- Membership – responsible for services including retention, the promotion of member benefits, and events focused on bringing our membership together
- Education – plans and executes educational programs focusing on current industry-related trends and issues, successful solutions, and market sector and/or client-focused workshops
- Future – focuses on professional development for members and leads the Chapter’s long-range growth plan through student outreach and professional development such as Mentoring Pathways and the NextGen Leadership Academy
Eligibility: To be eligible for election as Director-at-Large, an individual must be a member in good standing and have at least one year of experience volunteering on a Chapter committee.
Who Can Serve?
Why not you? To be eligible for any Board position, individuals must be Regular or Distinguished Life Members of SMPS and must have maintained membership for at least one year by December 31, 2026. No individual may hold more than one Board role at a time.
We welcome nominations from members who reflect the diversity of our community and bring energy, ideas, and a collaborative spirit to Chapter leadership. Nominate a fellow Bay Area marketer, or nominate yourself!
How Nominations Are Considered
The Nominations and Elections Committee reviews every nomination and confirms eligibility for each nominee. The Committee then selects a slate of one candidate for each open position, chosen on qualifications and on the overall balance of the Board.
The Chapter elects by the Slate Method, so submitting a nomination does not automatically place a name on a ballot. If no petition nominations are received, the slate is declared elected by acclamation and the incoming Board is introduced at the Annual Member Meeting. If a petition candidate is received, meets all eligibility requirements for the position sought and is not selected by the Committee, that candidate automatically appears on a written ballot alongside the slated candidate, and the ballot goes to the membership.
Nomination by Petition
Members may also nominate by petition instead of using the nomination form. A petition nomination must be signed by at least ten percent of Chapter membership and must be received by the Nominations and Elections Committee by Saturday, October 31, 2026 at 11:59 PM PT, the same deadline that applies to nominations submitted through the form. If you intend to submit a petition nomination, please contact the Committee Chair first so we can confirm the current membership count and the signature threshold with you.
Members of the Nominations and Elections Committee are not eligible to be candidates for election to the Board of Directors.
